A short introduction to materials and equipment
A short introduction to materials and equipment
Plenty of people either know someone who sews or had a small experience with sewing when they were younger but never really knew how to pick up the scissors and get started. Buying expensive equipment is unnecessary to get started in this most ancient of everyday activities, even a needle and thread is enough make a decent sewn product.
The purpose of this short (2-hour) course is to introduce the sewing curious to the materials and equipment used in sewing projects, in order to demystify the steps required to get started with sewing.
The public library in San Marcos, TX is offering this short course in how to start sewing in order to provide access to the sewing equipment in the library makerspace. The course is free of charge and all materials will be provided. Graduates from the course will have the future opportunity to take additional sewing workshops as they become available, or to be certified to use the makerspace sewing equipment under supervision during the "Open Sewing Studios".
